Warfarin, sounds like a delicious drug, "waffle-ing." And then, it can kill the baby.

Two nights ago, we saw a pregnant lady, who is same age with me, in Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. She was incidentally diagnosed to have aortic regurgitation and mitral regurgitation and treated as infective endocarditis because of her vasculitic lesion and fever.  She was so so cheerful, all the while trying to listen to our teaching session with doctor, and giggled at us whenever we made any mistake. (=.=)

Doctor said that her heart cannot afford to tolerate anymore with the hyperdynamic circulation, once the gestational week reach 30 weeks or even earlier. So, they might plan to terminate her pregnancy, despite her will to have another baby. After that, mechanical valve replacement is planned for her, and she need to on prophylatic warfarin for life time. We asked doctors, wouldn't it be any possibility for her to pregnant again? Yes, she can have tissue valve replacement, but this render another valve replacement in 5 to 6 years time. Also, the surgeon might not be agree with this plan, considering all the risk of the surgery.

Warfarin, sounds like a delicious drug, "waffle-ing." And then, it can kill the baby.
